競馬とは！？
そもそも『競馬』って何？と思われている方もいるかもしれないので説明しますが、
『競馬』とは農林水産省の元で行われる国に認められた公営ギャンブルです。
ギャンブルとはいえ、鍛え抜かれた馬たちと一流のプロ騎手が一体となり、時速60キロの速さで駆け抜ける迫力のあるレースは、もはやスポーツとも捉えることができます。
実際に競馬場で走る馬たちの迫力を目にすれば、見るだけでも楽しめるエンターテインメントを体験することができます。
要するに、競馬はギャンブル性とスポーツ性の2つの要素を持ち合わせた競技であることがわかります。
競馬には大きく分けて2種類ある
競馬には2つの種類があることをご存知でしょうか？
競馬の知識があまりない人は知らないかもしれません。
競馬は大きく分けると、「中央競馬」と「地方競馬」の2つが存在します。
それぞれの特徴について、解説していきます。
中央競馬
『中央競馬』は、「JRA（日本中央競馬会）」が主宰しているレースのことを指します。
会場は全部で10箇所で行われており、
函館・札幌・新潟・中山・東京・中京・京都・阪神・小倉
の競馬場で開催されています。
ネットやニュースで話題になる有名なレース（有馬記念・日本ダービーなど）は全て中央競馬で行われるレースです。
中央競馬のレース開催日は基本的に土日のみとなっています。
有名な競走馬「ディープインパクト」や「キタサンブラック」などが活躍していたのも中央競馬です。
地方競馬
中央競馬の会場以外で開催されるレースは全て地方競馬で開催されるレースです。
地方競馬はダートコースがメインの競馬場でコースの幅も狭く、コンパクトな作りになってるのが特徴です。
ごくわずかですが、地方競馬から中央競馬に進出して活躍する競走馬も存在します。
競馬初心者は中央競馬から始めよう
競馬には、「中央競馬」と「地方競馬」があるということは認識できたかと思います。
一見どちらも変わらないように思えますが実は異なる点がいくつかあり、どちらの競馬も魅力的ではありますが、競馬初心者は「中央競馬」から始めることをおすすめします。
中央競馬の場合、有名なG1レース（日本ダービーや有馬記念）など、一度は聞いたことがあるようなレースにトップクラスの競走馬が出馬します。
中央競馬のレースを購入し、テレビやライブ速報・現地などで観戦すると熱量も感じることができるのも「中央競馬」をやるメリットです。
また、「中央競馬」の方が馬券を購入している人数が圧倒的に多く、知名度も高いので周りの人からのアドバイスも受けやすいのが特徴です。
競馬の開催日
基本的に土・日・祝の10:00〜16:30で開催されるのが「中央競馬」です。
開催場所は全国各地にある中央競馬場10箇所の開催場で行われます。
競馬場に入るには入場料200円が必要になるので、来場する際は覚えておきましょう。
また、「地方競馬」は曜日に関わらずJRA（中央競馬）の大きなレースを避けて開催されることが多いです。
大井競馬場など、一部の地方競馬場はナイターで実施することもあり、平日の夜でもたくさんの人で賑わうことがあります。
競馬に必要な持ち物
競馬をするにあたって絶対に必要になってくるのは『お金』です。
掛け金（軍資金）がなければ馬券を購入することもできません。
また、ネットで馬券を購入する場合は携帯やスマートフォンが必要になってきます。
直接競馬場に行って競馬をする予定であれば、入場料の200円は必ず用意していきましょう。

レースの種類
続いてレースの種類について説明します。
競馬のレースには出走馬のレベル（獲得賞金）や性別、年齢などいくつかの種類があります。
代表的なのが、最もレベルの高い『G1』と呼ばれる重賞レースです。
聞いたことがあるレースの名前はほとんどこの『G1』レースです。
Gはグレードのことを意味し、1→2→3の順番で数字が若いほどレベルが高くなっています。
また、一度もレースに出走したことがない「新馬戦」や一度も勝利したことがない競走馬が出走する「未勝利戦」などがあります。
知っておくと予想にも活きるので、初心者の方は今のうちから知っておくといいでしょう。
競争体系
続いて競争体系について説明します。
競争体系にもいくつか種類が存在します。
・年齢別
・性別
・走路別
・距離別
以上4つの競争体系について1つずつ解説をしていきます。
年齢別
競走馬は平地での競争であれば2歳から出走することができます。
2歳から3歳にかけては気性面が荒れやすく年齢差が成績に大きく影響を与えるため、年齢による区別が行われています。
3歳になると各主催者ごとにクラシックと呼ばれる一生に一度しか出走できない大舞台が用意されていることが多く、3歳馬の多くがこのクラシックを目指して競うことになります。
3歳の夏を過ぎたあたりから年齢による能力面の影響が少なくなるため、負担重量による調整のみで上の年齢の競走馬と競うことになります。
性別
牝馬（ひんば）は牡馬（ぼば）に比べて能力面で劣ると言われており、牝馬限定のレースが多く設けられています。
牝馬限定のレースが多ければ、牝馬限定のレースのみで年間を通じて戦うことも可能です。
コース別
競馬で利用されている走路は主に芝とダートがあり、芝のみを得意とする競走馬やダートのみを得意とする競走馬、両方とも特に差を感じることなく走る競走馬もいます。
各競走馬ごとに得意な走路が異なることがわかります。
距離別
競走馬が最も力を発揮する距離はそれぞれの競走馬によって異なります。
・1200mを中心：スプリント
・1600mを中心：マイル
・2000mを中心：中距離（インターミディエイト）
・2400mを中心：中長距離（ロング）
・3000mを超える：長距離（エクステンド）
などの区別に分けられることが多く、それぞれ英語の頭文字を取ってSMILEと呼ばれています。
近年では、マイル・スプリントの拡充がされているのが特徴です。
馬券の種類
馬券にも種類がたくさんあり、これから競馬を始めたい方はどの馬券を買えばいいのかわからなくなってしまいますよね。
各種馬券の的中条件や特徴を抑えることで、自分の目的に適した馬券を購入することができます。
中でも初心者におすすめなのが、
『単勝』『複勝』の2つです。
上記2つは数ある馬券の中でも最も的中率が高い馬券になるので、初心者でも的中を体感しやすい馬券になっています。

予想方法
競馬をする上で1番の醍醐味が『予想』です。
競馬の種類がわかってもこの『予想』ができなければ意味がありませんからね。
今回紹介する予想方法は以下の3つです。

・人に意見を聞く

競馬新聞を読む
最も王道な予想方法として紹介するのが「競馬新聞」です。
競馬＝競馬新聞というイメージをする方も中にはいるのではないでしょうか？
「競馬新聞」は予想には欠かせない情報や競走馬の解説をしてくれているので、的中率を上げるには必要なアイテムです。

人に意見を聞く
自分の周りで競馬をやってる人は少なからずいると思います。
そういった人たちから情報を共有してもらい予想するのも1つの手段です。
特に初心者であれば、自分よりも知識がある方がほとんどだと思うので、そういった方の意見を参考にして予想する方が多いです。
気をつけなければいけないのが、情報を共有してもらったからといってその情報を鵜呑みにしすぎないことです。

馬券を購入する場所は3つ
競馬を始めるにはまず馬券を購入する必要があります。
競馬の馬券を購入できる場所は大きく分けて3つあります。

・ウインズ
・ネット購入
それぞれ1つずつ解説していきます。
競馬場
一般的な方法として、実際にレースが開催される競馬場で馬券を購入する方法です。
競馬場には備え付けの自動発券機が設置されており、レースが開催されていない競馬場でも他の競馬場で開催されているレースの馬券を購入することができます。
競馬場に置いてあるマークシートを記入し、自動発券機に投入すると馬券が受け取れます。
ウインズ
競馬場が近くになく、実際に競馬場に馬券を購入しに行けない方でも馬券を購入できる場所が「ウインズ」という施設です。
ウインズは場外馬券発売所となっており、馬券を購入するだけでなく、大画面でレースを観戦することができます。
競馬場が住んでいる近くにない方は「ウインズ」が近くにあるのか確認してみましょう。
ネット購入
3つ目にお伝えする購入場所はネットで購入する方法です。
現在の馬券購入方法でメインとも言える買い方で、携帯・スマートフォン・パソコンから購入することができます。
ネットで馬券を購入する場合は対応している銀行口座が必要ですが、登録自体は数分で完了します。
ネット購入を利用する最大のメリットは、直接競馬場やウインズに行かなくても馬券が購入できるということです。
スマートフォンや携帯があれば、どこにいても馬券を購入することができます。
